
Blowfish Hold off HiToms 8-7

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish held off the Thomasville HiToms 8-7 in dramatic fashion Thursday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The win keeps the Blowfish in the race for first place in the Coastal Plain League West Division.
The Blowfish jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first off of homeruns from Ryan Gebhardt and Joshua Miller. The Blowfish added two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Blowfish added four fifth before the HiToms scored four in sixth to make the score 8-5. They added a run in the seventh before cutting the lead to 8-7 in the ninth.
Zack Russell-Myers pitched another great game for the Blowfish going five and a third giving up five runs on six hits while striking out three to get the win for the Blowfish. Connor Sullivan got the save for the Blowfish pitching the ninth. He did give up a run on two hits while striking out one.
The Blowfish will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Fayetteville. The Blowfish return home for a Sunday doubleheader beginning at 5:05 against the Swampdogs of Fayetteville. Tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.
The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
