Edenton Steamers News Release

HAMPTON, VA - The Edenton Steamers and the Peninsula Pilots resumed their game from Tuesday in the top of the fourth inning with the Pilots leading 3-1. Peninusla scored in three consecutive innings and cruised to a 10-5 win over Edenton at War Memorial Stadium on Thursday.

David Teasley began the game on the mound for Edenton after Teasley officially replaced the starter Eddie Perkins back in Edenton before the game was suspended. Perkins pitched three innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits; he walked one and struck out none.

Peninsula took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Perkins and the Steamers when Zac MacAneney singled and moved to second on an error by Spencer Branigan on a pickoff attempt. Nick Thompson promptly made Edenton pay for the defensive mistake with an RBI single and it was 1-0 Pilots. Two more singles loaded the bases and Cameron Gibson hit a fly ball to left field that Michael Camporeale (University of Washington) caught for the second out. The fly out was plenty deep enough and Thompson scored to give Peninsula a 2-0 lead.

Peninsula tacked on a run in the top of the second inning against Perkins. After retiring the first two batters of the inning with ease, Perkins issued a walk to the number nine hitter Roberto Duran. Mitchell Shifflett reached on an error by Steamer third baseman Koby Kraemer (Indiana State University). The error allowed Duran to go to third base and he came home to score on a balk called by the field umpire, Ried Joyner and Peninsula had a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third against Vick, Edenton got on the board. DJ Johnson (Mercer University) led off with a double. Jason Kanzler (University of Buffalo) sacrificed Johnson to third base and Kraemer hit a fly ball to right field that Johnson scored easily on and it was 3-1 Pilots.

The game was officially suspended in the top of the fourth with Teasley facing Andrew Amaro to begin the inning. Teasley issued back-to-back walks after a sacrifice bunt and Mitchell Shifflett knocked both runners in with a double and it was 5-1 Pilots.

Peninsula added two more runs off of Teasley and the Steamers in the top of the fifth. Teasley hit two batters with a fly out in between and after a walk loaded the bases, Andrew Montague brought home two with a single and the lead was 7-1 Pilots.

Teasley in the top of the sixth was dinged for one more run. Zac MacAcaneny led off with a ground rule double and the next batter Nick Thompson drove him in with an RBI single to make it 8-1 Pilots.

Teasley pitched three innings and allowed five runs on four hits, three walks and he struck out one batter.

Jason Kanzler homered for the first time in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 8-2 but Peninsula answered back with a run in the top of the eighth off of right-handed pitcher Travis Huber. A leadoff walk to Nick Thompson followed by two singles scored Thompson on Corey Davis's RBI single and it was 9-2 Pilots. Michael Camporeale hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, his fourth home run of the season, to cut the lead to 9-3 Pilots.

Peninsula scored one final time in the top of the ninth of off right-handed pitcher Matt Duncan. After Roberto Duran singled and stole second. Nick Thompson hit his third RBI single of the game and pushed the Pilots lead to 10-3 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Michael Bonner came on for Peninsula to close out the win. DJ Johnson led off with a double and Kanzler then reached on an error. Koby Kraemer knocked in Johnson with an infield single to make it 10-4 and Camporeale brought home Kanzler with a ground out for the final 10-5 Pilots win. Camporeale, with his two hits, extended his hitting streak to nine games. The win was the first for the Pilots over the Steamers this season.
