Morehead City Marlins News Release
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.- Sam Ott ripped an RBI-double in the bottom of the ninth as the Morehead City Marlins defeated the United States Military All-Stars 3-2 on Thursday evening in front of 2,020 fans at Big Rock Stadium.
With two outs and nobody on base, Landon Moseley and Chace Mitchell worked back-to-back walks before Ott lined his double down the right field line, scoring the winning run from second base.
The Marlins scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning when Jarrett Higgins and Moseley singled to lead off the game. After Higgins stole third Mitchell grounded out, scoring Higgins from third. Later in the inning, Eric Peterson grounded in to a fielder's choice scoring Moseley and giving the Marlins a 2-0 lead.
The score held until the fifth inning when the All-Stars answered with two runs of their own. Kell Crain and Lance Noel both walked and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Crain scored on a wild pitch and Noel tied the game 2-2 on an RBI-single by Jesse Jenner.
William Prince earned the win, striking out the side in the top of the ninth inning while Bruce Jazwinski took the loss, allowing one run in 2/3 of an inning.
Ott finished 3-for-3 and reached base all five times he batted with two singles, a double, an RBI, a run scored, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Brandon Bass also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a double while Moseley singled and scored two runs.
