Giardina's Homer Breaks Up No-Hitter

June 21, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Sal Giardina (Lynn) broke up a no-hitter with a solo home run in the seventh inning, but the Fayetteville SwampDogs fell victim to an outstanding pitching performance by Wilson's Andrew Istler on Thursday night, losing 8-1 at "The Swamp."

Istler took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning, in a dazzling performance that saw him retire ten straight SwampDogs at one point.

Gary Ashcraft was impressive on the mound for Fayetteville, as he was up for the challenge presented by his counterpart. He left after surrendering just two earned runs through six full innings on the bump.

The no-hitter was broken up with two outs in the seventh on Giardina's fourth home run of the season. The long ball landed in nearly the same location as his walk-off homer on Saturday night against the Tobs.

Blake Beemer (Ball State) picked up the only other Dogs' hit in the eighth with a line drive to right field.

The next SwampDogs home game is on Saturday, June 23rd, where the first 500 fans receive a t-shirt courtesy of Cape Fear Valley Orthopedic. It's also turn the park red night, where NC State gear gets fans a ticket discount.

The SwampDogs urge fans to purchase their tickets for the July 3rd Fireworks Extravaganza as soon as possible, as only a limited number of seats remain for the game.

For tickets, visit or call the business office at (910)-426-5900, and for all things SwampDogs log on to www.goswampdogs.com.
