Blowfish Comeback Falls Short Against Petersburg

The Columbia Blowfish (10-17; 19-36) came back from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning, but lost a 5-4 decision in 10 innings to the Petersburg Generals (8-18; 12-42) Monday night at the Petersburg Sports Complex.

The Blowfish offense got off to a fast start, scoring a run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Brison Celek, off Generals' starting pitcher Matthew Hewitt, to take a 1-0 lead.

The Blowfish added another run in the top of the second on a RBI single by Zach Smith, scoring DeMontez Jones to lead Petersburg 2-0.

The Generals scored a run in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI triple by Tyler McCarthy, off Blowfish starting pitcher Blake Forslund, to cut the Blowfish lead to 2-1.

The Generals struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning, tying the game at 2-2 with a RBI single by Michael Gonzalez, scoring Nick McQuail.

Forslund gave up two runs on six hits, and struck out four batters in six innings.

The Generals took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single by Taylor Buran, off Blowfish relief pitcher Greg Harrison, scoring Michael Gonzalez and Brandon Scott.

The Blowfish came right back in the top of the ninth inning. Dedric Mingo scored on an error by Saez, to cut the Generals' lead to 4-3.

The Blowfish tied the game, 4-4, when Carlos Santana drew a bases loaded walk off Generals' relief pitcher Joshua Alford. Charlie McCann (2-0) relieved Alford, and forced Nick Abrahamson to line out, leaving the bases loaded.

The Generals loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but Blowfish reliever Chad Hodges got out of a bases loaded jam to send the game to extra innings.

The Generals won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning, as McCarthy hit a RBI single off Hodges (2-1), scoring Corbin Shive, to win 5-4.

The Blowfish wrap up the season tomorrow against the Wilson Tobs. The Generals finish the season with a doubleheader against the Peninsula Pilots.
