Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today that they have broken the CPL single season team records for walks in a season, runs scored and RBI during their 2011 campaign.

The single season walks record fell in Petersburg during the suspended game double header on Saturday July 30th. Heading into their twin bill, Edenton had 258 walks and needed just five to break the old record of 262 set by Forest City in 2010. In game one, the Steamers got seven walks to break the record and then added another four in the second contest. Edenton currently has 276 walks this season. Ryan Brenner, who also leads the Steamers in walks with 35, was the recipient of the record breaking walk in the bottom of the third inning in the Steamers 9-1 win in game over Petersburg.

One day after breaking the league record for walks in a season, the Edenton Steamers broke two more Coastal Plain League team single-season records Sunday night during their 6-0 win over Wilson. The Steamers finished the game with four RBI to give them 312 on the season, which broke the old record of 310 set by the Thomasville HiToms in 2007. Furthermore, Edenton's six runs scored gave them 357 on the year, breaking Forest City's record of 354 in 2009.

Edenton has also broken a handful of its own franchise records this season, including wins in a season (42), runs scored (357), triples, (12), RBI (312), total bases (728), walks (276), and stolen bases (131). With many more records close to falling for the 2011 Steamers, they are not finished making their mark in the CPL.
