Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
A third period comeback was not in the cards for the Fort Worth Brahmas this past Saturday night, as the Brahmas came up just short against the Oklahoma City Blazers, losing 3-2 in regulation.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead by captializing on two
odd man chances. At the 4:56 mark of the first, Blazers forward Doug
Sheppard slipped a nice pass to teammate Marty Standish at the bottom of
the right wing circle. Standish gathered in the pass and fired a bullet
to the top right corner of the net that beat Brahmas goaltender Brent
Belecki. Then, at the 14:25 mark of the first, Blazer wing Brad Herauf
intercepted a cross ice pass at the Brahmas blue line and broke in on a
two on zero rush with Jonathan Dubois. Herauf calmy slid a pass over to
Dubois, and the veteran forward tapped it past a scrambling Belecki.
The resilient Brahmas would begin to fight back in the game in the second
period. Fort Worth got on the scoreboard at the 11:34 mark of the second
when second year forward T.J. Warkus picked up a puck in a goalmouth
scramble and batted it past Oklahoma City goaltender Boyd Ballard.
Warkus's third goal of the season pulled Fort Worth to within a goal at
2-1.
In the final period, Oklahoma City jumped back ahed by two goals when
forward Les Borsheim deflected a Marty Standish shot between Belecki's
legs at the 7:15 mark. Fort Worth would get back to within one when d-man
Gary Baronick crashed the Blazers net and shoved a rebound by Ballard with
just 5:37 remaining in the game. The Brahmas would then turn up the heat
on the Blazers in that waning moments of the game. Fort Worth had several
chances to get the eqaulizer, but Ballard foiled them at every
opportunity. Fort Worth head coach Al Sims pulled Belecki with 1:10 left
in regulation, but the Brahmas failed to capitalize with the extra
attacker.
Belecki, who was making his first start for Fort Worth after being
acquired on Friday night from the Corpus Christi Rayz, suffered the loss,
allowing the three Blazers goals on 25 shots. Ballard stopped 25 of 27
shots to get the win for Oklahoma City.
The loss snapped a three game winning streak for the Brahmas. Fort Worth
will try to get back on the winning track when they travel to Odessa on
Friday night to battle the Jacks. For more information, please contact
