Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- After a three-game homestand that produced three wins and nearly 14,300 fans at the CenturyTel Center, two Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs players received weekly honors today from the Central Hockey League for their performances this weekend. Goaltender Ken Carroll has been named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week and forward Chad Spurr was awarded the Bauer/Nike CHL Player of the Week.

The two all-star teammates have been huge parts of the Mudbugs success this season and both continued their impressive play this week to help improve the Mudbugs' overall record to 26-8-3 and 17-2-1 in their last twenty games. With wins over Lubbock, Memphis and Oklahoma City, Bossier-Shreveport is now in first place in the Northeast Division with 55 points and a conference-best .743 winning percentage.

All-Star goaltender Ken Carroll appeared in two games this week and posted wins over Lubbock and Oklahoma City, while allowing just two goals in his 120 minutes of play. The Oil City, Ontario native made a total of 56 saves on 58 shots faced and improved his overall record to 17-7-2 this season. This week marks the second time that Carroll has been named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week this season.

Spurr, 24, continued his breakout season with two goals and six assists for eight points in the three Bossier-Shreveport wins this week. On Sunday, he notched a season-high four assists in the Mudbugs' 8-1 win over Oklahoma City to push his team-leading points total to 47. The Hamilton, Ontario native also added goals in Friday's 5-1 victory over Lubbock and Saturday's 3-2 defeat of Memphis. Spurr, who began the season in training camp with the Rochester Americans (AHL), currently has a seven-game point scoring streak and earns Bauer/Nike Player of the Week honors for the first time this season.

Ken Carroll and Chad Spurr will join defenseman Craig Minard as the Mudbugs' player representatives at Thursday's 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game in Albuquerque, NM. Carroll will start in goal for the Northern Conference All-Star Team, which will be coached by Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. The game will be broadcast locally on KWKH AM 1130 starting at 7:50 p.m. CT. For more information, please call 318-752-2847.
