Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

LUBBOCK VISITS AND GOES DOWN – On Friday, the Mudbugs kicked off their three-game homestand with their first and only meeting of the year against the Lubbock Cotton Kings. In an evenly-played first period, Forbes MacPherson scored the lone goal on the power play as he swept a rebound past Cotton Kings goaltender Jeremy Symington at 17:54. The Mudbugs then took control of the game in the second period with goals from Chris Brassard and Craig Soke. After a Chad Spurr power play goal thirteen seconds into the third period, Lubbock's Jim Shepherd and Ryan Manitowich traded tallies as the game ended with the Mudbugs on top, 5-1.

WHAT A NIGHT! – In front of a season-high 6,921 fans at the CenturyTel Center on Saturday night, the Mudbugs defeated the Memphis RiverKings 3-2 to take first place in the Northeast Division. After goaltender Jeff Blair shined in the first period with several key saves in the scoreless opening frame, Jason Campbell dove at a loose puck in the RiverKings' zone and chipped it past a surprised goaltender Mike Minard for the first goal of the game, just thirteen seconds into the second period. Nearly two minutes later, the Mudbugs struck on the power play as Dan Wildfong found Chad Spurr breaking down the slot from the blue line and Spurr's quick shot beat Minard to increase the lead to 2-0. The RiverKings scored two quick goals in the first minute of the third period, but Dan Wildfong scored a power play goal on a goal-mouth scramble at 3:55 to give the Mudbugs the lead and a 3-2 win. Jeff Blair improved to 9-1-0 since joining the team in November.

BUGS BLAST BLAZERS – On Sunday, the Mudbugs put together their finest offensive showcase of the season with an 8-1 beating of the Oklahoma City Blazers. After Craig Soke gave the Mudbugs an early 1-0 lead in the first, Bossier-Shreveport exploded for a season-high six goals in the second period, including two by Chris Brassard. Chad Spurr notched four assists on the night, while Forbes MacPherson scored a goal and three assists. Travis Bell also recorded the "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" in the game with one goal, one assist, and his first professional fight. The win was the ninth in a row for the Mudbugs on home ice this season and Ken Carroll earned the win to improve to 17-7-2 this year.
