Blame it on the Rain: Inclement Weather Hampers Jonathan Papelbon Bobblehead Giveaway
June 10, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Despite rainy conditions more than 490 fans lined Park Avenue in front of Hadlock Field on Wednesday, June 7th hoping to get one of only 1,000 Jonathan Papelbon Bobblehead dolls courtesy of Irving Oil. At 4:30 PM the weather forced Sea Dogs' management to postpone the game but the organization still opened the gates and handed out the unique giveaway to those that braved the elements expecting to get their bobbleheads.
"With that many people lined up in the rain it just proves that the popularity of bobbleheads is alive and well," said promotions coordinator Geoff Iacuessa. "We wanted to thank them for coming out despite adverse conditions, so we gave them what they had come for."
The good news for fans that missed out on the initial giveaway is that there are still 500 bobbleheads remaining and those will be given out to the first 500 fans prior to the 7:00 PM game on Monday, June 19th against the Connecticut Defenders. The gates are scheduled to open that night at 5:30 PM.
Tickets for the game are available at seadogs.com or by calling the Sea Dogs Box Office at 207-879-9500 but remember only the first 500 fans will receive the bobblehead.
