Altoona Curve News Release

MANCHESTER, NH- Ray Sadler broke an early tie with a three-run home run in the third inning and the Altoona Curve never relinquished the lead in defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7-3, Saturday night in Manchester.

The Curve (36-24) have won the first two games of their three-game series against the Fisher Cats and have a chance to complete the sweep when the two clubs meet in the final game of the series Sunday afternoon at Merchants Auto.com Stadium.

Sadler's sixth home run in 19 games since joining Altoona from Triple-A Indianapolis on May 19th came off Fisher Cats' starter Ismael Ramirez and gave Altoona a 5-2 advantage. The Curve right fielder finished the day 3-for-4 and has knocked in eight runs in three games on the current road trip.

Ramirez (4-5), who did not allow more than two runs in any of his first 10 starts, was roughed up by the Curve for the second time in as many outings. The right-hander was tagged for six runs--two earned--in four innings of work to suffer the loss. He also took the loss last Sunday at Blair County Ballpark in Altoona's 3-1 win.

Meanwhile, Curve starter Shane Youman used the early run support to his advantage and picked up his third win of the season. Youman (3-2), who came out of the bullpen to make just his third start, went five solid innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. The left-hander was called upon to join the rotation after recent injuries to starters Josh Shortslef and Chris Rojas.

Relievers Blaine Neal, Chad Blackwell and Jorge Vasquez combined to allow just one run over the final four innings to preserve the win. Vasquez struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to finish off the Fisher Cats.

After grabbing the 5-2 lead on Sadler's three-run homer, Altoona added single insurance runs in the fourth and eighth innings on a Brandon Chaves RBI single and a solo home run by Brant Ust--his fourth of the season.

Right-hander Landon Jacobsen (6-5, 3.50) will take the mound for the Curve in Sunday's 1:05 PM series finale. New Hampshire will look to avoid a three-game sweep by sending righty Michael McDonald (5-3, 3.36) to the hill.

Following Sunday's game, the Curve will return to Pennsylvania and take on the Reading Phillies in a single-game Monday night at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park. Altoona will return to Blair County Ballpark to open a six-game homestand Tuesday night against Harrisburg.
