Blades Even Weekend Series with Win over Moose Jaw
December 9, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades got goals from five different skaters leading to a 5-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in their barn on Saturday night. The Blades improve to 18-10-3-0 on the season and move back into sole possession of 2nd place ahead of Moose Jaw in the East Division. 11 different skaters recorded points and even goaltender Dorrin Luding added an assist.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
Riley McKay (5) got things going early in the first period thanks to a great feed from Tristen Robins. Moose Jaw would strike back twice to take a 2-1 lead into the first break.
Saskatoon exploded for four goals in the second period all coming at even strength. Zach Huber (6th), Brandon Schuldhaus (4), Gary Haden (8), and Josh Paterson (9) all got in on the fun which ended up being enough for the victory. Moose Jaw did get one goal in the 3rd period on the power play; a result of a Kirby Dach charging minor that was the only penalty called in the game.
Moose Jaw outshot the Blades 31-25 on the night, but Dorrin Luding made 28 saves in goal to win his 3rd straight start.
TURNING POINT
Gary Haden scored the 4th Blades goal of the night just 16 seconds after Brandon Schuldhaus made it 3-2 for Saskatoon. The back-to-back goals put the Warriors back on their heels and Haden's tally ended up being the winner.
TOP PERFORMERS
Josh Paterson was 1st star of the game and was the only Blades to register 2 points (1G-1A).
Chase Wouters had an assist, 6 shots on goal, and went 12/19 in the face-off circle.
Brandon Schuldhaus finished the night with a +2 rating and scored against his former team, his 2nd goal in his last 3 games.
NOTEWORTHY NUMBERS
Gary Haden scored his 8th goal of the season to extend his point streak to 3 games (2G-2A).
Dorrin Luding won his 3rd straight start, 4th total win on the season.
Josh Paterson extended his point streak to 3 games with 1G-1A on the night.
UNSUNG HERO
Brandon Machado got it all going in the 2nd period with a perfect cross-crease, backdoor feed to Zach Huber. It was Machado's 1st assist of the season.
