Blades Edge Hitmen in Overtime

Saskatoon, SK - The Calgary Hitmen kept their hopes for a Western Hockey League playoff spot alive by picking up a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the WHL leading Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre.

Trailing 3-2 late in regulation, the Hitmen pulled even when Connor Dale fired home the equalizer with 1:04 remaining.

Brandon Lisowsky would then go onto win it for Saskatoon, scoring his second of the night 65 seconds into the extra session.

Maxim Muranov with his 22nd goal of the season and Carter Yakemchuk with his 28th also scored for Calgary, staking the Hitmen to leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Easton Armstrong and Trevor Wong scored tying goals for the home side.

Saskatoon outshot Calgary 47-25 but goaltender Ethan Buenaventura made 43 saves for the Hitmen in a third star performance while Evan Gardner turned aside 22 shots for the Blades.

Calgary, four points back of Prince Albert for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot, now heads to Swift Current for the first of a regular season ending home-and-home set with the Broncos on Friday, Mar. 22. Game time is 7:00 p.m. MT at InnovationPlex. The rematch is the following day in the Hitmen regular season finale on Saturday, Mar. 23. Game time is 6:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome featuring the on-ice Hitmen player awards prior to puck drop. It's also Fan Appreciation Night presented by the Egg Farmers of Alberta.
