On Wednesday, March 20, the Swift Current Broncos announced their 2023/2024 Team Awards during their game against the Red Deer Rebels.
Humanitarian of the Year Award presented by the Swift Current Hockey Hounds - Reid Dyck
While being one of the best goaltenders in the WHL, Dyck is also one of the first players to step up when it comes to appearances in the community. Whether it's the Innovation iRead Porgram, Crescent Point Minor Hockey Visits, or Broncos in the SW visits, Reid participated in each one, always with a smile.
In his fourth season with the Broncos, Dyck has always been a key member of the community.
Most Sportsmanlike Player - Clarke Caswell
One of the Broncos leading scorers all season, Clarke Caswell is one of three Broncos to play all 66 games this season, and has only tallied 18 penalty minutes all season. His 75 points are second on the team.
Gordon May Top Scholastic Achievement Award - Peyton Kettles
In his first season balancing the rigours of a WHL schedule, and high school, Peyton Kettles has a 91% average for the 2023/2024 hockey season.
Fans Most Popular - Conor Geekie
Acquired from the Wenatchee Wild, Conor Geekie made friends very quickly in Swift Current with his physical play, and offensive ability. Through an online vote, Geekie earned 21.7% of the vote from the fans.
Team's Most Popular - Tyson Galloway
Acquired at the Trade Deadline, 20-year-old Tyson Galloway made a big impact on the Broncos dressing room. His experience, and defensive play have been huge additions to the Broncos on and off the ice.
Leadership and Maturity - Tyson Galloway
As the Broncos pushed towards the playoffs, and now the Central Division crown, Galloway's 200-plus WHL games as well as Maturity have been a big addition to the Broncos.
Charlotte Letkemann Memorial Award for Desire & Leadership - Reid Dyck
Now a back-to-back winner of this award, Dyck has become one of the best goaltenders in the WHL, even while dealing with injuries at different points throughout the year. When healthy, Dyck has shouldered a major load in the Broncos net.
King of the Road - Conor Geekie
Since being acquired from the Wenatchee Wild, Geekie has played 12 road games in a Broncos uniform. Geekie has scored 11 goals and added 10 assists for 21 points in those games. Geekie had six multi-point games on the road, including three four-point nights.
Chairman of the Boards - Ryan McCleary
Returning to his hometown of Swift Current via trade in the offseason, McCleary has had a career year for the Broncos. Part of his game has been a physicality from the blue line that has made life difficult on opponents. McCleary is throwing seismic checks every night this season.
Coaches Award - Josh Filmon
Currently in his fourth season with the Broncos, Filmon has been through it all with the organization. His leadership and experience has helped younger players through the years adjust to life in the WHL, and his impact is felt more than on the scoresheet each night.
