
Blades Earn Point in 5-4 Overtime Loss

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (4-4-4) fell to the Columbus Cottonmouths (7-3-1) in overtime 5-4 in front of 6,828 at TECO Arena on Saturday night. Columbus forward Brent Cullaton had two goals including the game winning goal with :10 seconds remaining in the overtime frame.
The Cottonmouths struck first on a shorthanded breakaway off the stick of forward Brent Cullaton at the 12:04 mark of the first period. The Everblades then came back and tied the contest at 1-1 after defenseman Vince Williams received a pass from forward Laurent Meunier and fired the puck into an open net at the 4:15 mark of the period. Defenseman Ed Hill picked up the other helper on Williams first goal of the season. The Cottonmouths then took a 2-1 lead on a one time shot from forward Andrew Long. Columbus then made it 3-1 after forward John Morlang scored on a 2 on 1 midway through the second period. The Cottonmouths then took a commanding 4-1 lead late in the second period on a power play goal from right wing Sean McAslan.
In the third period, the Everblades stormed back after forward Don Smith chipped in a rebound at the 3:05 mark of period. The Everblades rally continued after an Ed Hill shot redirected off the skate of forward Marty Johnston and into the net to make it 4-3. Florida then knotted the game at 4-4 when Duane Harmer knocked in a shorthanded rebound goal at the 13:14 mark of the third period.
However, in overtime Columbus forward Brent Cullaton scored the game winning goal with just :10 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Cottonmouths the victory.
Florida goaltender Daniel Boisclair (0-2-1) stopped 6 of 10 shots he faced and was replaced by netminder Rob Zepp (4-2-3) at the start of the second period. Zepp stopped 8 of 9 shots while Columbus netminder Matus Koster (4-1-0) stopped 53 of 57 shots. The Everblades were 1 for 5 on the power play while the Cottonmouths were 2 for 4.
Florida returns home on Friday, November 15th and Saturday, November 16th to battle the Augusta Lynx. The puck drops at 7:30 PM for both contests.
