Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release

The Baton Rouge Kingfish picked up a point tonight as they fell in a shoot-out to the Pensacola Ice Pilots, 2-1.

Pensacola opened the scoring at the 9:46 mark of the opening stanza as Gregor Baumgartner slipped the puck past Jeff Blair to give the Ice Pilots the 1-0 lead. Matt Elich and Scott Heswon added the assists.

The Kingfish waited till the opening moments of the second period to answer the Ice Pilots as Jason Norrie deflected a Steve Cheredaryk shot past Maxime Gingras just 25 seconds into the middle stanza.

Pensacola regained a one-goal lead at the 4:31 mark of the third as Scott Hewson beat Blair on the wrap-around on the power play giving the Ice Pilots a 2-1 lead.

Wes Scanzano answered eight minutes later as he buried a rebound past Gingras to tie the game at 2-2. Trevor Wasyluk and Garnet Jacobson added the assists on the goal that sent the contest to overtime.

The Kingfish had a couple of opportunities late in the third and early in the overtime session but could not punch one past Gingras.

Sam Paquet scored in the first round of the shootout but the Kingfish could not solve Gingras again as Mike Vigilante and Greg Pankewicz tallied goals in round two and four to give the Ice Pilots the win.

The Kingfish continue to struggle on the power play as they went 0-7 on the man advantage while the Ice Pilots scored on one of their nine power play opportunities.

Jeff Blair made 33 saves in net for the Kingfish as his record falls to 1-4-2 on the season.

The Kingfish are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 p.m. as the Arkansas RiverBlades make their first trip to the ‘Fish Tank'. Catch all the action on Baton Rouge's Best R & B, 104.5 WZRB. Our pregame show gets underway at 3:50 p.m.
