Buffalo Bisons News Release
Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons face the Norfolk Tides in the finale of a four-game series at Harbor Park (12:05 p.m.). With a victory today, the Herd can earn a series win over the Tides. Buffalo is 3-4 on their eight-game roadtrip that ends today. The Bisons return home tomorrow to face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in a four-game set.
vs. the Tides
This is the final regular-season contest for the Bisons and the Tides this year. Norfolk currently leads, 4-3. If the Herd won today, it would be its first season split with the Tides since 2007. The Bisons had series wins from 2009-2011 and Norfolk won the match-up in 2008 and 2012.
Claudio Vargas
RHP Claudio Vargas makes his team-leading 11th start of the season today. The righty is winless in his last five decisions, including on Wednesday in Durham after allowing six runs in 4.1 innings of work. That was Vargas' first loss on the road this season as the veteran is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA in five starts away from Coca-Cola Field.
Chart Topper
INF LUIS JIMENEZ added to his league-leading totals of 50 RBI and 38 runs scored yesterday. Jimenez hit his 12th home run on Sunday, tying him for the team lead and 3rd-most in the International League. He ranks 3rd in the IL in average (.348) and slugging pct. (.603).
Always on Base
INF ANDY LaROCHE has reached base safely in 25 consecutive games, the 4th longest streak in the IL this year. Since May 3, the slugger has hit .322 (29-90) with eight doubles, three home runs, 17 RBI and a .406 on-base pct. All seven of LaRoche's home runs this season have come on the road.
Streaking
INF RYAN GOINS has hit in seven straight games, the longest active streak on the Bisons. Since May 26, he has averaged .348 (8-23) with two double, a home run and four RBI. Goins has reached base safely in 16 of his last 19 games with an at-bat and is averaging .304 in 26 games since the start of May.
Roster Move
RHP MICHAEL SCHWIMER has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 31. In six games with the Bisons, Schwimer allowed just one hit in six scoreless innings of work.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays' (24-33) 7-4 victory over San Diego last night was overshadowed by the injury to former Bisons RHP RAMON ORTIZ. Ortiz injured his throwing elbow on a pitch and will be re-evaluated in Florida today. The Blue Jays are off today and will face the Giants on Tuesday.
