Durham, N.C. - The Durham Bulls (Triple-A/Tampa Bay Rays) continued their offensive hot streak, as they defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees) on Monday afternoon, 15-2. NEPA native Rich Thompson doubled, tripled, and drove in four runs for the streaking Bulls.

Durham raced out to the lead with two runs in the first inning. Thompson led off with a double to right field, then advanced to third on Jason Bourgeois' single. Thompson scored on Vince Belnome's sacrifice fly to right field. Bourgeois came around to score when Wil Myers doubled to left field.

The deficit was halved by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the second when Ronnier Mustelier homered to left-center field to leadoff the frame. It was Mustelier's fourth home run of the season.

The Bulls advanced their lead with four runs in the bottom of the second. Mike Fontenot led off with a walk, and following base hits by Tim Beckham and Craig Albernaz, the bases were loaded. Thompson cleared them with a triple down the right field line. He later scored on a wild pitch.

Thompson scored another run in the fourth when he reached on a walk, stole second, and then scored on a single by Belnome.

Two more runs came across for Durham in the fifth. Shelley Duncan led off with his fourth home run of the season, and Fontenot reached on a walk and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Albernaz.

Another home run by Durham added to the lead as Bourgeois led off the sixth inning with his second round tripper of the season.

The game was put out of reach in the seventh, when the Bulls plated five runs. The inning was highlighted by run scoring hits by Albernaz and Bourgeois. Durham led 15-1 after seven innings of play.

Melky Mesa grabbed the team lead in home runs when he hit his seventh of the season to lead off the eighth inning.

Jeff Beliveau (1-1) tossed scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth innings to earn the victory.

Kelvin Perez (0-4) made the spot start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and picked up the loss. He went an inning and one-third before exiting the contest due to an apparent injury.
