Today's Game

The Buffalo Bisons take on the Indianapolis Indians in the second game of a four-game set from Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd looks to even up the series after dropping last night's game, 7-3. The Bisons wrap up their eight-game homestand on Sunday.

vs. Indianapolis

The Bisons are 1-4 against the Indians this season, having lost a series at Victory Field, May 14-17. The Herd was 3-5 against the Indians in 2012, dropping three of the four at Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons have not won a series against Indianapolis in Buffalo since going 3-1 in a four-game set, June 19-22, 2004.

First Place Herd

The Bisons have been tied or alone in 1st place in the IL North for 33 straight games. It's the longest stretch since 2007, when the club led for 65 consecutive games, May 5-July 16. In 2007, the Bisons spent 76 games in 1st place of the division but failed to make the playoffs.

On the Mound

RHP CLAUDIO VARGAS makes his team leading ninth start of the season tonight. The righty also leads the team in ERA (4.70), quality starts (4), and is tied for the lead in innings pitched (44.0). Vargas took the loss his last time out, allowing six earned runs in three innings on May 18 vs. Charlotte.

Late Inning Dominance

LHP JUAN PEREZ and RHP NEIL WAGNER have combined to allow just four runs in 38.1 innings of work (0.94ERA) this year. The duo has 54 strikeouts to only 21 hits allowed this season. Wagner is a perfect 11-for-11 closing out games and has not given up a run in 14 straight outings (15.2 IP). Perez has held IL lefties hitless (0-18, 7 SO) and has yielded a run in only one of his last 14 outings (18.2 IP). Through 45 games, the Herd is outscoring their opponents 42-12 from the 8th inning on.

Bisons Bits

OF RICARDO NANITA homered in his Bisons debut, the first player to do so since INF LUIS JIMENEZ on Opening Day of this year...RHP MICHAEL SCHWIMER has held opponents scoreless and has only given up one hit in his first four appearances with the Herd (5.0IP, 3 SO)...RHP DAVE BUSH has the lowest BB/9IP ratio (1.29) among all International League starters.

The Blue Jays (20-27) beat the Orioles on Thursday by a score of 12-6. Former Bisons OF ANTHONY GOSE entered the game as a defensive substitution in the 7th inning, and went 1-1 at the plate with a run scored. The two clubs will play again tonight at 7:05 p.m.
