Bisons RHP Jenrry Mejia Transferred to St. Lucie

May 9, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that RHP JENRRY MEJIA was transferred off the Bisons disabled list to Single-A St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League. He had spent the first 32 games of the season on the Bisons' DL.

Mejia started for St. Lucie Mets on Wednesday morning and pitched five innings in the Mets' 4-2 victory over Brevard County. Mejia allowed two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out one.

Mejia, 22, had not pitched since starting five games for the Bisons at the start of the 2011 season. The righty entered last season as the New York Mets #1 prospect by Baseball America. He was 1-2 with a 2.86ERA for Buffalo, but was shut down after his April 29 start in Rochester after doctors found a complete MCL tear of the right elbow. On May 16, Mejia underwent 'Tommy John' surgery, performed by Dr. Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
