BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Red Wings and Monroe County have proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 25 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees use the downtown ballpark as a temporary home while PNC Field in Moosic, PA undergoes a season-long renovation. BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK: The Red Wings picked up a 3-1 win last night at Pawtucket and have won 5 of their last 6 games following a season-worst 8-game losing streak. With the victory and a 4-0 loss in the series opener, Rochester has alternated wins and losses for the first time this season.

a Rochester is 5-3 thus far in May. The team hasn't won 5 of its first 8 games in a calendar month since May 2011, when it also had a 5-3 record. The 2011 Red Wings, however, would win only 5 more games the rest of the month to finish May with a 10-17 record.

a The Red Wings have an International League-best 2.22 ERA (16 ER/65.0 IP) in 8 games in May.

LET'S RE-LIVE THAT OPENING DAY MAGIC: Since scoring a season-high 7 runs on Opening Day, April 5 at Syracuse, the Red Wings have been held to 5 runs or less in each of their last 30 games. In the 6 contests they've scored at least 5 runs, the Wings are 5-1. They are 9-16 in their other 25 games.

a The Red Wings have scored an International League-low 91 runs, 22 fewer than the next closest team: Durham (Rays) with 113. The league leader is Pawtucket, which has plated 166 runs.

CHECKING IN: Recently promoted lefthander Scott Diamond yesterday earned the win for the Twins in his first start, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6 in 7.0 innings in the 5-0 triumph against the Angels at Target Field. The former Red Wing got slugger Albert Pujols to ground out each of the 3 times he faced him.

a Brian Dozier, meanwhile, collected his first RBI last night with a 4th-inning single that knocked Dan Haren out of the game.

BACK IN THE SADDLE: The Red Wings went a season-high 8 straight games without a home run until Pedro Florimon belted a 3rd-inning solo shot off Ross Ohlendorf last night. It was Rochester's first homer since Joe Benson's 2-run blast April 28 at Buffalo.

a The 8-game homer drought was the Red Wings' longest since May 24-June 1, 2010.

a The Red Wings have hit 11 homers overall, tied with Durham (Rays) for the fewest in the league.

THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER: The Red Wings bullpen has tossed scoreless relief in 5 of its last 6 games beginning May 2, allowing just 3 runs (all earned) in 22.0 innings for a 1.23 ERA in that time. (The Wings have played 7 contests in that span, but the bullpen was not needed in P.J. Walters's complete-game effort in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader vs. Buffalo.) Rochester has a 4.02 bullpen ERA overall and is 13-for-14 in save opportunities.

a Rochester is tied for the league lead with Lehigh Valley (Phillies) with 13 saves. Anthony Slama is tied for 2nd in the IL with 7 saves.

a Deolis Guerra has worked 9.0 consecutive scoreless innings in 4 games since joining the Red Wings April 28 from Double-A New Britain. The 9.0-inning streak is tied with Slama for the longest scoreless innings streak by a Red Wings reliever in 2012.

a Including 7.0 straight scoreless innings over his last 4 appearances with New Britain, Guerra has worked 16.0 consecutive scoreless innings overall, a stretch the started April 15. He hasn't given up a run since April 12 at New Hampshire (Blue Jays).

MASTRO, PLEASE: Darin Mastroianni is batting .365 (27-for-74) in 19 games since joining the Red Wings from Double-A New Britain April 14, ranking 3rd in the IL in that time behind Toledo's Justin Henry (.386, 22-for-57) and Columbus' Matt LaPorta (.377, 26-for-69).

a Including 2 last night, Mastroianni has a team-best 10 stolen bases as well, which is tied for 3rd in the IL overall. He also has a team-best 9 multi-hit games, one more than the recently promoted Dozier.
