Buffalo Bisons News Release

Jordan Patterson hit a two-run home run and Patrick Kivlehan drove in the eventual game-winning tally as the Bisons opened up a six-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over the Syracuse Mets, Friday night at Sahlen Field.

In a game filled with deep pitch counts and men left on base, the Herd had just a little more offense than its Thruway rival. Patterson's home run in the first inning, his team-best 11th of the season, was worth two when Tim Tebow's an inning later was a solo shot for the Mets.

Buffalo then got the insurance run they would need in the seventh when Kivlehan picked up his third hit, and second infield single, to drive home Jonathan Davis.

Both teams made the opposition's pitchers work hard for the outs they got all game. In a contest that included 324 tosses to the plate, neither Herd starter Jacob Waguespack (3.2 innings on 73 pitches) nor Syracuse's Drew Gagnon (4.0 innings on 84 pitches) made it to the fifth inning.

Patterson worked the count to his advantage in the first and made no mistake with a 3-1 change up from Gagnon. The slugger golfed the ball out to deep centerfield, just to the right of the of the scoreboard and into the ballpark's pavilion area. With Socrates Brito on with the first of his two hits of the night, the Bisons took the early 2-0 lead.

Buffalo then left nine men on base over the next four innings, finally cashing in an insurance run in the seven. Even with the Syracuse infield guarding the lines, Davis drove a double just inside the third base bag and into the left field corner. Two batters later, Kivlehan hit a grounder up the middle that took a nasty hoop on former Herd infielder, Danny Espinosa. The ball bounced off his glove and allowed the speedy Davis to score.

Bisons manager Bobby Meacham used four relivers to close out the win. David Garner retired all four batters he faced in relief of Waguespack to earn the victory. Newly-named All-Star Justin Shafer got the final six outs for his seventh save of the season.

The Bisons host the Mets again Saturday night with a 6:05 p.m. first pitch from Sahlen Field (TICKETS)

BISONS NOTES: The Bisons left 12 men on base to Syracuse's eight... Reese McGuire went 1-3 at the plate and had an impressive 14-pitch at-bat that led to a walk in the second inning... With a 4-3 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre loss in Lehigh Valley, the Bisons are back to within five games of the RailRiders in the IL North division.
