HOLA, LOS MURCIÃLAGOS: The Louisville Bats rebrand as Los Murciélagos for the weekend at Louisville Slugger Field as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversión or "Fun Cup" against the Clippers (Los Veleros). Louisville plays 3 more games in the month of June and six more on the homestand, with the Bats set to meet Columbus in 7 of their next 10 games before the All-Star break.
AGAINST COLUMBUS: The Bats and Clippers will meet for the first time in over 2 months, last facing off in a four-game series at Louisville Slugger Field from April 15-18. The Bats grabbed their first series victory of the season against Columbus, taking 2 of 3 from the Clip Show from April 8-10 at Huntington Park to finish out their season-opening road trip.
SUNDANCE KID: Louisville catcher Cassidy Brown made his Triple-A debut last night, homering in the bottom of the sixth. He became the first Louisville player to hit a home run in his debut at the level since Sebastian Elizalde did it on Opening Day, April 6, 2017 vs. Columbus.
PUNISHER OF BASEBALLS: Right fielder Aristides Aquino crushed his 17th home run of the season on Thursday night, breaking a tie with Brian O'Grady for most on the club this season. Going into his 50th career game with the Bats, he is one home run shy of tying the record for most home runs in a player's first 50 games in a Louisville uniform (since 2000):
Player Home Runs First 50 Games
Adam Dunn 18 5/17/01-7/13/01
Aristides Aquino* 17 4/4/19-pres (49 G)
Mike Hessman 15 4/4/13-6/5/13
SO DONE WITH ONE-RUN: The Bats fell by a 4-3 score last night, tying it up 3-3 in the sixth on Aquino's homer, before allowing a run to the Toledo Mud Hens in the ninth inning. With the loss, LOU has fallen to 8-18 (.308) in 26 one-run contests this season, second-lowest win percentage in the league, ahead of Pawtucket (6-15, .286).
A MONTH TO FORGET: The Bats are 5-20 (.200) in the month of June, in danger of their worst calendar month by winning percentage in franchise history. With 3 games left against Columbus to finish out the month, Louisville will need to at least win 2 out of 3 to avoid setting a new record:
Month Record Winning Pct.
June 2019* 5-20 .200
July 1991 7-22 .241
May 2018 8-22 .267
ALL-STARS: The International League announced its 2019 All-Star team on Thursday, with 3 Louisville Bats making the club: outfielder Aristides Aquino, starting pitcher Lucas Sims and infielder Josh VanMeter.
