LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - Adam Duvall hit a grand slam and two-run home run to lead the Gwinnett Stripers to an 8-1 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Friday night. The opener of the road trip was the third consecutive setback for the Tribe.

Duvall entered Friday's contest second in the International League with 22 home runs, but he moved into a first-place tie with Columbus' Bobby Bradley due to Friday's effort. His first blast came with Travis Demeritte aboard in the bottom of the first inning. It sailed over the left-field wall to give Gwinnett the 2-0 lead.

Indianapolis (41-37) cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the fifth. Eric Wood opened the inning with a single to right field. He moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored when Jason Martin lined a double to left field.

Tribe starter Yelfry Ramirez settled in after the first Duvall homer as he retired 11 in a row at one point before running into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. He walked Pedro Florimon to start the frame, then Luis Marte and Gwinnett pitcher Kyle Wright hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Two outs later, Duvall smacked a grand slam off the batter's eye in center field.

The Stripers (44-35) added the final two runs of the inning and the game when Alex Jackson hit a two-run home run that scored Rafael Ortega. The three longballs gave Gwinnett a new single-season record for homers as a team, the previous mark was set during the 2011 campaign.

Wright (5-4) dazzled against the Tribe lineup and pitched into the eighth inning. He allowed just one run on three hits and struck out eight. Ramirez (1-3) fanned six opponents but five of Gwinnett's eight runs were charged to him in the loss.

The Indians will look to snap the three-game skid in game two of the series and the trip on Saturday night. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. as Mitch Keller (6-1, 2.89) will take the mound for Indy. The Tribe returns to Victory Field on July 4 to open a four-game homestand.
