ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Pawtucket Red Sox tied the game in the eighth inning and won it in the ninth in a thrilling 7-5 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Friday night at Frontier Field.

The PawSox (32-46) grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning, only for the Red Wings (38-40) to snatch a 5-3 lead in the fourth. Pawtucket inched within one in the sixth, then tied the game in the eighth. The PawSox, who pounded out 15 hits and worked five walks, then scored twice in the ninth to start the three-game series with a victory.

In the third game of his rehab assignment, Tzu-Wei Lin (knee, shoulder) went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and played seven innings at second base, where he made a beautiful sliding play in the sixth inning.

Juan Centeno went 2-for-4 with a double plus a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning that put Pawtucket in front 6-5. Cole Sturgeon went 3-for-5 with an RBI double to the left-center wall in the sixth inning that initiated Pawtucket's comeback effort.

Pitching for a second consecutive day for just the second time all season, Trevor Kelley (S, 4), who was named an International League All-Star on Thursday, breezed through a 13-pitch, 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning. Kelley's ERA is now 0.96. He has allowed just one earned run since May 12. Kelley's fastball sat at 91 MPH and bumped 92.

Jenrry Mejia turned in one of his best outings of the season, fanning four in two shutout frames. Bobby Poyner (W, 2-2) worked a scoreless eighth.

Bryce Brentz drilled a 418-foot two-run homer - his fourth long ball in his last five games - in the first inning. Jantzen Witte went 2-for-5.

Rochester reliever Andrew Vasquez (L, 1-2) allowed two runs.

The PawSox now continue their series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Frontier Field. PawSox right-hander Ryan Weber (1-2, 6.37 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Red Wings righty Sean Poppen (4-0, 2.08). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 6:35 p.m.

Following the five-game road trip, the PawSox return to McCoy Stadium on Monday-Wednesday (July 1-3) for a three-game series against the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Patriotic Post-Game Fireworks will follow all three night games - all of which begin at 6:05 p.m. Then when the PawSox are home July 12 (Friday) following the All-Star Break, the first 3,000 fans will receive a Jackie Bradley Jr. Gold Glove bobblehead at McCoy Stadium. On July 14 (Sunday), the first 4,000 fans will receive a PawSox cap, compliments of the Rhode Island Lottery & WEEI-FM.
