LAST NIGHT: For a second consecutive night, the Indians had a chance to tie or win the game in their last at-bat but the Tribe fell short in the comeback attempt, falling 3-2 to the first-place Clippers. Indy scored both of its runs in the drama-filled ninth inning on an Eric Wood double to left-center. Columbus then replaced Chih-Wei Hu with Neil Ramirez, and the hard-throwing righty retired JB Shuck on a lineout to second and Steven Baron on strikes to end the game. Alex McRae (L, 5-4) allowed three runs in 4.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. He gave up a run-scoring single to Mark Mathias in the fourth and a two-run homer to Trayce Thompson in the fifth that made it 3-0. Aaron Civale (W, 2-0) stymied the Indians with seven shutout innings, scattering four hits with six punchouts.

CRAIG AND THE FUTURES GAME: Tribe first baseman Will Craig was today selected as the Pirates representative for the 2019 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game held at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, July 7. Craig will suit up for the U.S. team in the seven-inning affair. Craig was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Wake Forest University. He is the eighth Indians position player since 2005 to play in the Futures Game, joining Jose Bautista (2005), Steve Pearce (2007), Andrew McCutchen (2008), Gregory Polanco (2013), Josh Bell (2015), Elias Diaz (2015) and Austin Meadows (2016).

WILL'S WAY: Craig has provided plenty of thump in the Tribe lineup this season, batting .258 (71-for-275) with 12 doubles, 16 homers and 45 RBI. He leads the team in both dingers and ribbies, with his home run total already eclipsing Kevin Kramer's team-high 15 blasts from the 2018 campaign. Craig ripped seven homers in April and eight in May, both team bests. The 24-year-old slugger has had a power outage in June with just one long ball, but he did record a 14-game hitting streak from May 25-June 8, the longest by any Tribe player this season.

ANOTHER REHAB: The Indians welcome MLB rehabber No. 15 of the season to their roster this evening for the series opener at Gwinnett, shortstop Erik Gonzalez. Indy had 11 total players rehab for them over the 2017 and 2018 seasons combined. The 27-year-old Gonzalez was acquired by Pittsburgh from Cleveland on Nov. 14, 2018 with right-handed pitching prospects Dante Mendoza and Tahnaj Thomas in exchange for outfielder Jordan Luplow and utilityman Max Moroff. Gonzalez was Pittsburgh's Opening Day shortstop and hit .216 (11-for-51) with two doubles, one triple and two RBI in 16 games before fracturing his left clavicle in a collision with center fielder Starling Marte. The injury landed Gonzalez on the 60-day injured list on April 20.

MAKE IT A DOZEN: Indy's pitching staff has allowed at least one home run in 12 consecutive games dating back to Game 1 of a doubleheader against Pawtucket on June 16. It's the longest home run streak for opponents against Indy since the start of the 2012 season (Indy's media guides do not go back any further on this statistic). Earlier this season, the Tribe homered in 12 consecutive games (April 23-May 4), the longest stretch since 2012 as well.

NAIL-BITERS: Indianapolis is 15-11 in one-run games this year, tied with Columbus (15-4), Durham (15-7) and Charlotte (15-9) for the most one-run victories in the IL. The Tribe went 14-24 in one-run ballgames last year. Twenty of Indy's 26 games this month have been decided by three runs or less (76.9 percent). On the season, Indy has played 56 of its 77 games (72.7 percent) within three runs after playing only 60 percent (84-of-140) in 2018.
