Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Tribe first baseman Will Craig has been named to the U.S. roster for the 2019 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The announcement was made by Major League Baseball today at noon. The seven-inning game will be played on Sunday, July 7 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio as part of MLB's All-Star Sunday.
Craig, 24, was on Indianapolis' Opening Day roster after leading all Pirates minor leaguers in home runs (20) and RBI (102) in 2018 with Double-A Altoona. The Johnson City, Tenn. native ripped seven homers in April and bested that mark with eight in May, becoming the seventh Tribe player with eight or more home runs in a single month since 2005. Through 73 games this season, Craig is batting .258 (71-for-275) with a .476 slugging percentage and ranks among International League leaders in long balls (T-9th, 16) and RBI (T-10th, 45).
Craig's home runs have come in bunches this season, as he has homered in consecutive games five different times. He also logged a 14-game hitting streak from May 25-June 8, the longest by an Indians player in 2019 and tied for the seventh-longest streak in the IL.
Craig was rated as Pittsburgh's No. 15 prospect by MLB.com and No. 16 by Baseball America prior to the season. He is the eighth Tribe position player to be named to the U.S. or World team roster in the All-Star Futures Game since Indy became the Triple-A affiliate of the Pirates in 2005. Jose Bautista (World - 2005), Steve Pearce (U.S. - 2007), Andrew McCutchen (U.S. - 2008), Gregory Polanco (World - 2013), Josh Bell (U.S. - 2015), Elias Diaz (World - 2015) and Austin Meadows (U.S. - 2016) are the others.
