TODAY'S GAME: Tonight marks the beginning of an eight-game homestand at Coca-Cola Field for the Buffalo Bisons. The Herd returns home against IL-West opponent Toledo Mud Hens (7:05 p.m.) after taking three of four games at Pawtucket. Yesterday, the Bisons and Red Sox battled for 14 innings before the PawSox hit a walk-off home run to avoid the sweep.
vs. MUD HENS: Earlier in the season, the Bisons and Mud Hens split a road series in Toledo (June 1-4). After dropping the first two contests, the Herd won the next two to bounce back. In the series, the Bisons' pitching staff recorded a 1.89ERA against Toledo.
HARVEY : RHP MATT HARVERY takes the hill tonight for the 18th time this season. In his last outing, July 4 in Syracuse, the righty allowed just two runs on four hits in six innings of a 5-0 Chiefs win. Harvey leads the Bisons with seven wins and 102 strikeouts this season (2nd most in IL). The righty threw two hitless innings (2K) in the 2012 All-Star Game on Wednesday in Buffalo and was named the MiLB.com Top Star for the International League.
LEWIS: OF FRED LEWIS was named the International League Batter of the Week for July 9-15. Lewis is the first Bison to earn the honor this season. In the All-Star shortened week, Lewis led the IL with three home runs and seven RBI over the four days since the break. The Bisons' batting average leader (.295), also leads the Herd in stolen bases (18), runs (50) and extra-base hits (39) this season.
J-BAY: Mets' OF JASON BAY continues his MLB injury rehab assignment with the Bisons. In yesterday's contest versus Pawtucket, Bay went 2-4 with a walk and a run scored. In his two appearances with the Herd, Bay is hitting .375 (3-8). On June 15, Bay suffered a concussion in a game with the Mets.
BISON BITS: OF FRED LEWIS' 18 stolen bases are the most for a Bisons player in a single season since OF Ben Francisco stole 22 in the 2007 campaign...OF VALENTINO PASCUCCI hit his 52nd career Bisons home run yesterday. He now is tied with Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer Richie Sexson for the 5th most in the modern era.
METS UPDATE : The Mets suffered their fourth-straight loss as the Braves scored six in the bottom of the fifth to capture a 6-1 victory at Turner Field on Sunday afternoon. The Mets' run in the seventh came off a two-out single by CF ANDRES TORRES. New York is off tonight and will take on the Nationals in Washington on Tuesday.
