Charlotte Knights News Release
(Rochester, NY) - The Charlotte Knights took to the road on Monday fresh off a four-game sweep of the Durham Bulls at Knights Stadium. The Knights entered Monday's opener with a five-game win streak and the chance to tie their season high win streak at six games. The Yankees did not let that happen.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, aka Empire State, belted out 18 hits, hit three home runs, and scored 14 runs en route to a 14-2 win over the Knights on Monday night in the opening game of a four-game series from Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. The Yankees, who are playing "home" games in Rochester, NY this season while their ballpark in Moosic, PA is being remodeled, won their fourth game in a row.
Charlotte starter Charlie Leesman (7-8, 2.82) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over three innings and was charged with the loss.
Reliever Shane Lindsay then came on to begin the fourth inning and allowed nine runs over 1.1 innings pitched.
Dallas McPherson provided the Knights only offensive spark. McPherson hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning off Ramon Ortiz, to put Charlotte on the scoreboard. It was McPherson's second home run in as many days.
The home run was the only blemish for Ortiz (7-3, 2.84), who threw six good innings to earn the victory. The Yankee bullpen combined to toss three scoreless frames.
Charlotte will look to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday in game two. RHP Charlie Shirek will toe the rubber for the Knights. The Yankees will send RHP Adam Warren to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
