Today's Game
This afternoon, the Bisons host the Pawtucket Red Sox for the first game of a weekend series at Coca-Cola Field (4:05 p.m.). The clubs will meet again tomorrow before the Herd leaves for a seven-game roadtrip to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Rochester.
Last Game
LHP Wade LeBlanc allowed just two runs over 6.1 innings but the Bisons fell to Rochester, 2-1. It was the fifth straight game the Bisons have scored three or fewer runs. SS Jio Mier drove in Buffalo's lone tally with an RBI-double in the eighth inning.
vs. Pawtucket (2-2)
The Bisons opened up the season in Pawtucket as the two teams split a four-game set from McCoy Stadium. That series contained the only Bisons game this year that has been decided by more than two runs, a 9-1 Buffalo victory a week ago today.
Casey Lawrence
RHP Casey Lawrence gets the start for the Herd on short rest today. The righty worked in Tuesday's doubleheader in Syracuse, allowing three runs in three innings in a loss. Lawrence led Double-A New Hampshire in wins last year with 12, going 12-13 with a 4.52 ERA.
Close Calls
The Bisons have five losses on the season, four of which have been by one run. Close defeats were an issue for the Herd last season, as the club was an International-League worst 19-32 (.373) in one-run games in 2015. Since 2014, Buffalo is just 40-65 (.381) in one-run contests.
David Aardsma
RHP David Aardsma is a perfect 3-for-3 in converting saves this season to lead all International League relievers. The 34-year old veteran now has 145 career saves, including 69 at the Major League level with Seattle, 2009-2010. Aardsma has not allowed a hit in any of his outings and has issued just one walk.
Dalton Pompey
OF Dalton Pompey has hit in each of his first four games this year with a .429 (6-14) average and a .467 on-base pct. Dating back to last season, Pompey has hit in 13 of his last 16 Triple-A contests with a .356 average and 10 runs scored.
Bisons Bits
The Herd have not allowed more than four runs in any game this season, but have only scored more than three runs once themselves...RHP Drew Hutchison leads all qualifying IL pitchers with a 0.34 average against...LHP Chad Girodo has made three scoreless appearances this year, retiring at least five batters in each outing...
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (5-6) was on the short side of a 5-3 score in Boston last night. DH Edwin Encarnacion had all three of the Blue Jays' hits in the game, two of which were home runs. The rest of the club went 0-25 against Red Sox pitching. RHP Marco Estrada gets the ball today as teams battle again from Fenway Park at 4:05 p.m.
