Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Hens and Bats were back at it Saturday night as Toledo looked to extend their early IL West lead with a game three win. The two teams went back and forth as the game featured plenty of offense at Louisville Slugger Field.
The bats continued to roll Saturday night as the Hens got on the board early thanks to a sac fly from big league journeyman Casey McGehee, bringing around Cameron Maybin. Maybin reached on a leadoff double, his third of his rehab assignment. In the second it was the big lefty, Steven Moya, bringing Wynton Bernard home on a well struck double to left field.
Bats' starter John Lamb's day ended after a Chad Huffman RBI single, scoring McGehee and extending the lead to 3-0. Lamb was hit around in his three innings of work, surrendering three runs on six hits. On the bump for the Hens was Lucas Harrell, who earned his first win of the young season. The right-hander struck out four in his five innings of work, scattering two runs on five hits.
The offense struck back and got on the board for Louisville in the bottom of the fifth off Harrell, as singles from Carlos Triunfel and Jose Peraza brought home first two runs for the Bats.
A big five run seventh gave Toledo more than enough insurance to hold the lead. Chad Huffman had himself a quality night at the plate, as his two run double in the top of the seventh extended the lead to 5-2.Steven Moya and Cameron Maybin came around to score on the play. Argenis Diaz and Thomas Field followed suit with RBI singles adding to the lead. Huffman ended the night two for four at the dish, driving in three. The Toledo offense also finished the game going six for thirteen with runners in scoring position, as they made the most of their opprotunities.
The lead was placed in the hands of relievers Drake Britton, Warwick Saupold, and closer Bobby Parnell who successfully kept it in tact to secure the Hens' third win of the series over the final 2 2/3 innings.
Toledo brings their three game winning streak into Sunday's matinee, looking to sweep the four game set. Talented right-hander, Michael Fulmer toes the rubber for the Hens. First pitch is set for 2:05 PM at Louisville Slugger Field. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
