Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - RHP Michael Ynoa, who has not allowed a run in three appearances this season with the Double-A Birmingham Barons, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. Ynoa, 24, entered the season ranked by MLB.com as the 26th best prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization. Charlotte's roster is now set at 25 active players.
Ynoa, a native of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (4.0 IP, 0 H, 4 SO) so far this year with the Barons. On Sunday, April 10, the 6'7" right-hander earned his first promotion to the majors when he was recalled by the Chicago White Sox to take the place of outfielder Adam Eaton, who was placed on the Paternity List. Ynoa did not appear in a game and was returned to Birmingham on Monday, April 11 when Eaton was reinstated off the Paternity List.
Last season with Winston-Salem (High-A), Ynoa compiled a 0-2 record with a 2.61 ERA in 28 appearances out of the Dash bullpen. He saved six games and struck-out 40 batters in 38.0 innings pitched. He was acquired by the Chicago White Sox along with RHP Jeff Samardzia on December 9, 2014 from the Oakland A's in exchange for infielder Marcus Semien, catcher Josh Phegley, first baseman Rangel Ravelo, and RHP Chris Bassitt. Ynoa originally signed with Oakland as a 16-year-old on July 2, 208.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. tonight as the Knights will host the Durham Bulls in game three of their four-game series. Tonight's 6:05 p.m. game can be heard on ESPN 730 AM and will also be broadcast live on WMYT My12 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Throwing out tonight's ceremonial first pitch will be the Sklar brothers, Randy and Jason.
