Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky- Sunny skies welcomed Major League rehabber LHP John Lamb (0-1, 9.00) and RHP Lucas Harrell (1-0, 3.60) to the mound for the Louisville Bats (2-5) and Toledo Mud Hens (4-1). Unfortunately, the Bats losing streak against Toledo hit eight games as they fell, 8-6.
Mud Hens' CF Cameron Maybin lead off the game with his third double of the year. He came around to scored the first run of the game after a broken bat single from LF Wynton Bernard and a sacrifice fly from 3B Casey McGehee
Lamb allowed four hits and gave up two more runs in the third inning, as the Mud Hens used three singles along with RF Steven Moya's fourth double of year to pad their lead. The third inning would prove to be Lamb's last. He threw 65 pitches, 41 for strikes.
The Bats produced their first runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. RF Kyle Waldrop reached first on a single with one out in the inning. A wild pitch by Harrell put Waldrop in scoring position for 2B Carlos Triunfel, who drove him in with a single. After a ground-out by SS Juan Perez advanced Triunfel to second, CF Jose Peraza singled him home for his first RBI of the year.
Toledo tacked on some insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. A lead-off walk from Maybin and an intentional walk issued to Moya gave way to two RBI double by Huffman, driving in his second and third runs of the night. A passed ball by right hander Steve Delebar allowed Huffman to score the third run of the inning. SS Argenis Diaz and 2B Tommy Field both produced RBI singles of their own following a walk by DH Jordany Valdespin. The Mud Hens led 8-2.
The fight would not end for the Bats, however, as in the bottom half of the inning, they scored three runs of their own. A leadoff walk from RF Kyle Waldrop was followed by an RBI single from Perez. Peraza's third hit of the night led to an RBI single from LF Jesse Winker, which was his first run knocked in on the young season. 1B Brandon Allen hit a hard line drive to right field that brought home another run.
In the ninth, the Bats produced another run on another Allen RBI single, but it would not be enough.
Lamb finished his night with three innings pitched, three earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Peraza went three-for-five with an RBI. The Mud Hens' Chad Huffman was the difference maker, going two-for-five and driving in three.
The Bats are back at Louisville Slugger Field tomorrow as right hander A.J. Morris (0-1, 9.00) takes on Toledo's right hander Michael Fulmer (1-0, 0.00) at 2:05 PM.
