Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Ryan Jackson's go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the seventh helped lift the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (3-5) to an 8-5 win over the Rochester Red Wings (4-5) on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Jackson (3-3, RBI) delivered the clutch RBI single in the seventh after Taylor Featherston had reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error charged to Red Wings C Juan Centeno to start the frame.

The win snaps a three-game losing skid for the IronPigs who also picked up their first win of the year at Coca-Cola Park.

LHP Dan Runzler (1.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 2 K) was dealt the loss for Rochester and falls to 0-1 on the year.

RHP Andrew Bailey (1.2 IP, H, R, ER, BB, 2 K) earned the win for the Pigs to improve to 1-0 on the season. RHP Edward Mujica (1.1 IP, 2 K) got the final four outs to notch his first save of the year.

Rochester took an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the third as Buck Britton crushed a two-run shot off of Pigs starter Reinier Roibal and Darin Mastroianni came through with an RBI single. It was the first home run of the season for Britton.

Roibal (n/d) gave up the three runs on five hits while fanning three over his three innings of work.

In the top of the fourth, the Red Wings extended the lead to 4-0 as Wilfredo Tovar drew a two-out walk, stole second, took third on a throwing error by Pigs C Andrew Knapp and scored on James Beresford's RBI single.

Knapp atoned for his error with a two-run single in the home half of the fourth to bring the IronPigs within 4-2. Lehigh Valley had runners with first and second with nobody out later in the inning, but Wings starter Jose Berrios was able to wiggle his way out of the jam when Cam Perkins (2-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI, 2 R) lined into a 6-4 double play.

Berrios (n/d) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits to go along with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 IP.

In a three-run sixth, Perkins tied things at four apiece with a two-run double and scored on Will Venable's RBI single to give the IronPigs a 5-4 lead for the time being.

Rochester quickly responded to tie it at five with a run in the top of the seventh as Jorge Polanco drew a two-out walk issued by Bailey and scored on a Kennys Vargas RBI double.

RHP Severino Gonzalez (3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB) had a strong outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.

Lehigh Valley was able to push across a pair of key insurance runs in the eighth as Perkins delivered with a two-out RBI triple and Venable (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) followed with an RBI double to give the IronPigs an 8-5 lead.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as RHP Zach Eflin (1-0, 1.50) will be on the bump for the Pigs against Red Wings LHP Logan Darnell (0-1, 10.80).
