TODAY'S GAME: Today, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the second game of a five-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The Yankees will serve as the home team this afternoon while the Herd will bat last Wednesday-Friday. This 10-game in nine-day homestand is the Bisons final regular season home games this year.
NOT QUITE HOME: This is the second series this season the Bisons will be the "road" team at Coca-Cola Field. Buffalo batted first against the Yankees in a four-game series that the teams split, May 24-27. The Yankees are playing their entire 2012 season away from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as construction of a new ballpark takes place where PNC Field once stood.
vs. YANKEES: The Bisons are 5-7 against the Yankees this season. The teams have traded two-game sweeps recently, with the Herd winning a pair against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in Syracuse, July 7-8 and the Yanks taking two as the road team at Coca-Cola Field, August 10-11. The Bisons have not won a season series over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since they were the Red Barons during the 2005 season (9-7).
WHEELER: RHP ZACK WHEELER takes the mound for his fourth start at Triple-A this season. The righty is coming off his first decision with the Herd, a loss, August 16 against Lehigh Valley. He tossed 5.0 innings while allowing five runs but did not walk a batter. Overall, Wheeler is 0-1 with a 4.60ERA and 16 strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work with the Bisons.
BISONS BITS: INF MATT TUIASOSOPO hit his first home run since July 13, a two-run shot off Ramon Ortiz in the second inning last night. It was his ninth homer of the season...RHP C.J. NITKOWSKI's streak of not allowing an earned run ended after he gave up two last night. His ERA is now 2.84 in 6.1 innings of work and eight appearances with the Herd...OF FRED LEWIS stole his 23rd base of the season last night and is now tied for fourth-most in the International League...The New York Mets announced today that they recalled LHP ROBERT CARSON. The southpaw had a 1.72ERA and 15 strikeouts in 10 games with the Herd (15.2IP).
METS UPDATE : The Mets (57-65) lost to the Rockies last night by a score of 3-1. Former Bisons RHP R.A. DICKEY tossed 7.0 strong innings, allowing just one run and striking out six. INF DAVID WRIGHT hit his 36th double of the season and scored the only run. New York continues their series with Colorado tonight (7:10 p.m.).
