Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed a leadoff single to Eduardo Escobar in the top of the first inning, and that was the only hit the Red Wings could muster all night, as the PawSox shut out Rochester 3-0. Dice-K worked 7 shutout innings, striking out seven and walking four. Matsuzaka (1-3) turned in his best effort of the year in his eleventh rehab start for Pawtucket. Josh Fields held the Wings scoreless over the final two innings.
Nate Spears first inning homer off the right field foul pole was all the offense the Sox would need. For Spears, it was his tenth home run of 2012. He becomes just the second Pawtucket player with double figures in home runs. Mauro Gomez has 24. DH Ronald Bermudez went 1-3 with an RBI.
The PawSox have Wednesday night off and hit the road for a final 8 game southern swing of the year. Game time Thursday in Charlotte is 7:15 p.m.
