Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Durham's Lance Pendleton outdueled Dylan Axlerod on the way to a 3-1 Bulls victory over the Charlotte Knights on Tuesday. Leslie Anderson's 2 RBI helped the Bulls snap a five game skid and gain their first win of the homestand.
After three and half innings without a run, Anderson broke the scoreless tie with a solo blast to right center. Anderson's 13th homer of the season set a new single-season career-high for the Cuban born player.
The Knights evened up the score at one all in the following frame. Greg Golson notched a two out double to center and came home on a single by Drew Garcia. Charlotte loaded the bases and were poised to break the game open, but Pendleton struck out Hector Gimenez to avoid any further damage.
Pendleton (W, 8-5, 4.60) was dominant, but left the game with a 1-1 score after six strong innings. Before Frank De Los Santos entered the game in relief, Durham scored a second run in the bottom of the sixth to give Pendleton his eighth victory of the season. Jose Lopez committed his third error of the year, which allowed Reid Brignac to reach base. Tim Beckham then seized the opportunity and crushed an RBI double over the head of the leaping centerfielder Golson, scoring the go-ahead run and putting the Bulls back on top.
Durham padded their lead with an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh. Rich Thompson led off with a single and moved to third on Cole Figueroa's third hit of the night. Anderson earned his second RBI of the match with a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Thompson to score and giving the Bulls a 3-1 lead.
De Los Santos held down the fort and added two perfect frames, before Dane De La Rosa could attempt to save his 16th game of the year. De La Rosa worked around a walk and got an 6-4-3 double play to seal the Bulls victory.
Durham welcomes the Norfolk Tides to the DBAP tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Norfolk's RHP Jake Arrieta (3-3, 5.21) kicks off the five game set against RHP Chris Archer (6-9, 4.00).
