Hens Split Doubleheader, Series with IronPigs

August 21, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Hens and IronPigs split a rain-induced doubleheader on Tuesday night after Monday's game was rained out. Lehigh Valley blanked the Hens 1-0 in the first game while the Hens rallied for a 5-1 victory over the IronPigs in the second to claim a series split.

A Cody Overback solo homer off Casey Crosby in the second was the difference in the first game as the Hens couldn't get anything going offensively. The Hens managed just three hits and stranded four men on base.

The second game favored the Hens after they took an early 4-0 lead with two runs in each of the first two innings. Don Kelly was responsible for two of the runs with an RBI double in the first and an RBI single in the second.

Starter Drew Smyly was pulled after a scoreless first inning. In his absence, the Hen pen pitched six innings of two-run ball after Bruce Rondon allowed two IronPigs runs in the seventh.

The Hens now head to Columbus to open up a three-game set with the Clippers tomorrow night.

Game Notes

Brad Davis extended his hit streak to seven with a hit in the second game of the double header.

Casey Crosby has now suffered a loss in four of his last five starts. < /li>
