Charlotte Knights News Release

(Durham, NC) - Tim Beckham broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI double off of Knights starter Dylan Axelrod, and the Durham Bulls earned a 3-1 victory over first place Charlotte in the finale of a two-game series from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC on Tuesday.

Axelrod (7-5, 2.88) was the hard-luck loser in game two after allowing just two runs on seven hits over six innings. His club scored just one run on the night and had just five hits in the game.

Charlotte (77-55) trailed the Bulls 1-0 after a solo home run by Leslie Anderson in the fourth inning. The Knights scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning and did so on an RBI single from Drew Garcia. Garcia and Jose Lopez led the way with two hits apiece.

With the game tied at one, Beckham came through with the go-ahead double to make it a 2-1 ballgame. An inning later, Anderson drove home Rich Thompson with a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 Durham lead. That run came off of Charlotte reliever Santos Rodriguez.

Lance Pendleton (8-5, 4.60) started for the Bulls and allowed just one run over six innings to earn the victory. Dane De La Rosa earned his 16th save in the ninth inning.

The first place Charlotte Knights have a scheduled off day on Wednesday and will return home to Knights Stadium on Thursday with a magic number of four games. Second place Norfolk earned an 8-0 win over Gwinnett on Tuesday to pull to nine games back of Charlotte with 12 games left in the season.

On Thursday, the Knights will host the Pawtucket Red Sox in game one of a four-game series. LHP Charlie Leesman will take the mound for Charlotte and former Knights RHP Zach Stewart gets the nod for the PawSox. First pitch on Thursday is set for 7:15 p.m.
