TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons open a two-game series with the Pawtucket Red Sox from McCoy Stadium (7:00 p.m.). Buffalo is currently 1-3 on their season-long 11-game roadtrip. After tomorrow, the team will move on to Scranton/WB for a five-game in four-day series with the Yanks. Tonight, the Herd will turn to LHP Jeremy Sowers. The southpaw allowed just one run in five innings in a no-decision a week ago today. Pawtucket will counter with RHP Clay Buchholz..
vs. THE PAWSOX: The Bisons have played nine games against Pawtucket this season, but none since May 6. The Herd is 6-3 against the PawSox. The teams last met May 5-6 in a three-game series that included the Bisons' historic eight-run ninth-inning comeback win in the completion of suspended game from April 23. Buffalo has won six straight against the PawSox.
GO NORTH: All 34 of the Bisons remaining games are against International League North division teams. Buffalo's 28-18 record within the IL North is the best among the six teams.
SWEET AND SOWERS: LHP Jeremy Sowers has allowed just one earned run in his last two starts. On July 20 against Syracuse, the southpaw gave up just two unearned runs in a complete-game victory over the Chiefs. He also struck out a season high eight in that game. Last Wednesday against Charlotte Sowers allowed just one run in a five-inning no-decision.
ALL-STAR SLUGGER: Ryan Mulhern had another hit last night to improve his hit streak to five games. During this stretch Ryan is 8-15 (.533) with five runs scored, two doubles, and four RBI. His .309 average is now tied for 4th in the International League. He also ranks T3rd in doubles (31), 5th in slugging percentage (.511) and 12th in RBI (60).
INSTANT IMPACT: In just his second game with the team this year, Asdrubal Cabrera collected four hits and a pair of runs scored. The shortstop was an Eastern League All-Star with Double-A Akron this year. At the time of his promotion on Monday, he was hitting .310 with an E.L.-high 78 runs scored. He was also 4th in the league in hits (114) and stolen bases (23).
UN-COOPED: Outfielder Jason Cooper had two doubles and a home run last night. He is six for his last 10 at the plate, with three doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI. He currently is 2nd on the Bisons with 31 extra-base hits (Ryan Mulhern, 45).
