Jewett Named IL's Top Manager By Baseball America

INDIANAPOLIS -- Trent Jewett has been named the International League's "Best Manager Prospect" in the Aug. 13-26 edition of Baseball America. The 10th-year Triple-A manager has guided Indianapolis to 209-186 regular-season record in three seasons at the helm.

The Indians enter Wednesday night's doubleheader one game above .500 at 55-54. The Tribe has spent 414 of 421 days (98%) at .500 or better in three years under Jewett's leadership.

The 16th-year Pittsburgh Pirates employee picked up his 200th victory in Indianapolis on July 1 and his 900th win as a Minor League manager on July 15.

Jewett led Indy to a 154-132 regular-season mark in his first two seasons. The 2006 Indians earned a share of the IL's West Division crown after going 76-66, while the 2005 Tribe went 78-66 before advancing to the league's Governors' Cup Finals.

Indianapolis returns to Victory Field on Aug. 11 for a 7 p.m. contest against Toledo. The five-game homestand includes two games against the Mud Hens (Aug. 11-12) and three tilts vs. the Louisville Bats (Aug. 13-15).

The Indians have averaged 10,107 fans per game over their last 22 home dates. The Tribe ranks sixth in the 14-team International League with an attendance average of 8,144 through 56 openings this season.
