Norfolk Tides News Release

August 1, 2007 - The Louisville Bats pounded out 17 hits, cruising to an 11-0 win over the Tides Wednesday night from Harbor Park.

Every Louisville starter had a hit in the contest, and seven of the Bats' starting nine came around to score. The Bats had a 5-0 lead after six innings before blowing open the contest with six runs in the seventh. Louisville sent 11 men to the plate in that decisive frame, with the big blow of the inning being a two-run home run by Jorge Cantu.

Aaron Herr, Jay Bruce and Ryan Jorgensen each had three hits apiece for Louisville, with Bruce adding a two-run home run in the 4th inning. Herr, Bruce, Cantu and Chris Dickerson each had two runs driven in.

Johnny Cueto (2-0) earned the win for the Bats, allowing just two hits in six innings of work. The 21-year-old, who entered the season as the 4th-best prospect in the Reds' system according to Baseball America, struck out four without walking a batter.

Jim Johnson (5-10) took the loss for the Tides, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings of work. He walked one and struck out five.

Jon Knott paced Norfolk's seven-hit attack with two doubles, both of which came off Cueto.

Norfolk and Louisville will continue their four game, three day series with a 6:15 doubleheader Thursday evening. Craig Anderson (5-2, 3.02) will oppose southpaw Jason Kershner (5-4, 3.72) in game one, with Tim Kester (7-8, 5.81) slated to take on right-hander Steve Kelly (1-5, 7.12) in the nightcap.
