
Braves Split Double Header

In the first game the Braves erupted for four runs in the first inning. Brandon Jones knocked in a run with a sac fly, Brent Lillibridge singled a run home, and Wes Timmons knocked in two with a double. Jones singled a run home in the second to make it 5-0. The Braves added a run in the third on an RBI double by Iker Franco. The Indians avoided a shutout in the fourth with an RBI single by Luis Matos. The Braves scored a run in the fourth on an error. In the fifth Richmond hit double figures on back to back home runs by Lillibridge, a two-run shot, and Timmons. Brayan Pena capped the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh.
Kevin Barry earned the win, striking out six in six innings. Runelvys Hernandez took the loss. Lillibridge and Pete Orr each had three hits for the Braves.
In the nightcap the Indians took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a home run by Steve Pearce. Indianapolis blew the game open in the fifth, scoring four runs helped by two Braves errors. Michael Ryan knocked in a run with a sac fly. Pearce singled a run in. Russ Johnson smacked an RBI double. The Indians also scored on a throwing error on a sac bunt. The Indians tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a Luis Ordaz RBI single and a run-producing ground ball by David Parrish. The Braves dodged a shutout in the seventh on a home run by Jonathan Schuerholz.
John Van Benschoten tossed six scoreless innings and earned the win. Brad Nelson took the loss. Johnson, Ordaz, and Pearce had two hits each for the Indians.
