Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Durham Bulls in the second game of a four-game series from Durham Bulls Athletic Park (7:00 p.m.). The Herd struck first in the set with a 3-1 victory last night. LHP Aaron Laffey gets the start tonight. The southpaw threw 5.1 innings of two-run ball last Friday to defeat the Bulls back at Dunn Tire Park. It was Laffey's seventh consecutive victory. Durham will counter with RHP Mitch Talbot.

NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (70 consecutive days). Their current lead is 2.5 games over second-place Scranton/WB. The Herd's lead peaked at 4.0 games on July 6.

ROAD WARRIORS: With 27 wins in 44 games, the Buffalo Bisons are the owners of the best road record in the International League (.614 winning percentage). The pitching staff has posted a 3.66ERA on the road this season (4.48ERA at home).

VS. THE BULLS: The Bisons are 3-2 in five games against the Bulls this season. The team has not lost a series against Durham since suffering a four-game sweep, June 22-25, 2002 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. That series was one of only three sets dropped by the Bisons to the Bulls since rejoining the IL in 1998. Overall, Buffalo has a 43-34 record over the Bulls.

HE'S NO JOKE: LHP Aaron Laffey enters tonight's outing with seven consecutive wins. After posting a Bisons' record six victories in June, the southpaw worked 5.1 innings to defeat Durham last Friday. During the stretch, Laffey has posted a razor-thin 1.16ERA, with 41 strikeouts and only 36 hits allowed in 46.2 innings of work (8R, 6ER, 7BB).

HOMERING HERD: Infielder Keith Ginter's 10th home run of the season proved to be the difference in last night's victory. Ginter is now 2nd on the Bisons team with his 10 blasts (Ryan Mulhern, 12). The Bisons have 81 long balls on the season, 5th most in the International League. Andy Marte, Luis Rivas and Brad Snyder all have nine homers on the year.

BULLY FOR THE PEN: Jensen Lewis and Edward Mujica combined to strike out four of the final seven batters of the game last night. For Mujica, the save was his team-leading 12th. So far this month, the Bisons bullpen has posted a 1.78ERA with 26 strikeouts in only 25.1 innings of work (27H, 11R, 5ER, 4BB).
