TONIGHT'S GAME: Is the second of a two game series and the second of 12 meetings; the second of six at Fifth Third Field. The Braves are 0-1 vs. the Mud Hens. Richmond is 387-326 all-time vs. the Mud Hens. The 22nd of 48 games vs. West Division clubs and the 16th of 24 on the road. Richmond is 12-9 vs. the West, 8-7 on the road. Game two of a six game road trip. The Braves are in first place in the South Division by four games over Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Mud Hens beat the Braves 5-3 at Fifth Third Field Thursday. The Hens rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to win the opening game of the series. The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the second. Larry Bigbie doubled a run home and scored on a Doug Clark single. The Hens tied the game in the home half on a two run homer by Brent Clevlen. The Mud Hens grabbed the lead in the fourth with two more runs on solo homers by Clevlen and Mike Hessman. Brayan Pena knocked in a run with a single in the eighth to cut the Hens lead to 4-3 but Toledo added insurance in the home half on a run scoring wild pitch to make it 5-3. Virgil Vasquez earned the win. Kevin Barry took the loss. Aquilino Lopez notched a save. Pena and Clark had two hits for the Braves. Clevlen and Timo Perez had two hits for the Mud Hens.
ROAD TRIPPIN': The Braves have the second best road record in the IL (29-19 .604). Richmond is exactly .500 at home (20-20). The Braves are one of only two clubs in Organized Baseball (19 leagues) to enjoy sole possession of first place in a division with a .500 home record (Chattanooga is in first place in the second half race in their division of the Southern League with a .500 home mark).
CRUNCHING NUMBERS: Richmond has been at least nine games over .500 every day since April 28. The Braves have enjoyed a lead of at least three and a half games in the South Division every day since April 21. The Braves have used 47 players and made 72 roster moves this season. 11 Braves (Yunel Escobar, Willie Harris, Martin Prado, Buddy Carlyle, Peter Moylan, Steve Colyer, Kevin Barry, Blaine Boyer, Anthony Lerew, Macay McBride, and Jo-Jo Reyes) have earned promotions to Atlanta this season. The Braves are in a stretch in which they play 10 out of 20 games vs. Toledo. This is the Braves second Friday the 13th game this season (they are 0-1).
OF STREAKS AND MEN: Martin Prado has hits in nine straight games (15- 39 .384). Doug Clark has hits in five straight games (10-20 .500). Iker Franco has a five game hitting streak (5-18 .278). Gregor Blanco has a five game hitting streak (6- 22 .272). Larry Bigbie has hits in three straight games (7-13 .538). Brayan Pena has multiple hits in three straight (8-13 .615).
LEADING THE WAY: The Braves lead the IL in ERA (3.44), shutouts (11), and fewest home runs allowed (54). Martin Prado is eighth in the league in batting average (.312). The Braves are second in steals (92). Gregor Blanco is third in runs scored (59). The Braves are tied for the IL lead in fielding percentage with Toledo.
ARMED AND DANGEROUS: The Braves lead the IL in percentage of opponents caught stealing (51-112 .455). Corky Miller leads IL catchers in caught stealing percentage (32-67 .478). Iker Franco has thrown out 17 of 34 opponents trying to steal (.500) but has not played enough games to qualify for the league lead. He is the only catcher in the IL to throw out 50% of runners trying to steal while facing more than 20 attempts. Braves outfielders have 26 assists this season. The Braves had 21 outfield assists all of last year.
