Indianapolis Indians News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Left-hander Brian Duensing tossed 5.1 scoreless innings and right-hander Bobby Korecky collected his single-season franchise record 23rd save as Rochester hung on for a 4-3 win over Indianapolis in front of 8,286 Friday night at Frontier Field.
The Red Wings improve to 49-42 overall and 29-21 at home, while the Indians fall to 48-43 on the season and 20-26 on the road. The Tribe now trails Rochester by one game in the International League's Wild Card race.
Duensing (5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 6 SO) improved to 6-2 with the win, while Korecky (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 SO) notched his fifth straight save.
Rochester cracked the scoreboard with one run in the second when 3B Brian Buscher (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) tagged a double to center, advanced to third on C Chris Heintz's (1-for-4) single to right and crossed the plate on SS Gil Velazquez's (1-for-4, 1 RBI) groundout to third.
The Red Wings added another run in their following at-bat. 2B Alexi Casilla (2-for-5, 2 R) roped a lead-off single to left and LF Tommy Watkins took a free pass before RF Darnell McDonald (2-for-3, 1 R) singled to left to load the bases. DH Matthew LeCroy (2-for-3, 2 RBI) followed with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Casilla.
Rochester cushioned its lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. Casilla collected another lead-off single and Watkins moved him 90 feet closer with a sacrifice bunt. McDonald was then intentionally walked before LeCroy brought Casilla plateward with a single to right. McDonald scored moments later on Buscher's single to center.
Indianapolis scored its first runs of the night in the sixth when 1B Yurendell de Caster (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) clobbered his fifth roundtripper of the season -- a two-run shot to right-center -- after RF Brad Eldred (0-for-3, 1 R) reached on a walk.
The Indians made it a one-run contest in the eighth when de Caster roped a double to right before 3B Russ Johnson (1-for-2, 1 RBI) brought him home on a single down the left-field line.
Indianapolis LHP Michael Tejera (5.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) suffered the loss, falling to 3-2. RHP Salamon Torres (1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 SO) worked 1.1 scoreless innings in the first outing of his Major League rehabilitation assignment.
The Tribe's fifth straight set back ties a season-high. Indianapolis also dropped five in-a-row from June 21-25. The Indians have now lost seven consecutive road affairs.
The two teams return to Frontier Field on Saturday at 6:05 p.m., for game three of the four-game series. RHP Marty McLeary is slated to start for Indianapolis, while RHP Nick Blackburn is expected to get the nod for Rochester.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 5:45 p.m.
