Bisons' Lewis Gets First Major League Call

The Cleveland Indians today announced that the club has purchased the contract of pitcher Jensen Lewis from the Bisons. This is Lewis' first promotion to the Major League level.

Lewis, 23, has excelled with the Herd since joining the team on June 14. After 10 games, he has a 1-0 record with a 1.38ERA and one save (13.0IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, 12K). Eight of his outings with the Bisons have been scoreless.

The Cincinnati, OH native began the year at Double-A Akron where he went 2-0 with a save and a 1.85ERA in 24 relief outings (39.0IP, 27H, 8ER, 13BB, 49K). Combined on the year he has limited minor league hitters to a .177 (32-181, 3HR) average against. Since May 1 his ERA stands at 0.68 (40.0IP, 18H, 3ER, 48K).

Lewis was the 102nd overall player selected in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft after the Indians picked him in the "Sandwich" portion of the 3rd round. He spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons in a starting role and was converted to relief for the 2007 campaign.
