Yanks Late Inning Rally Enough to Hold Off Bats, 5-2

LOUISVILLE, KY- The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees scored three runs in the top of the tenth to top the Bats 5-2, Friday evening in front of 11, 914 at Louisville Slugger Field.

Yankee catcher Omir Santos started the extra-inning rally with a single to center. Center fielder Brett Gardner added a single of his own, advancing pinch runner Jamal Strong to second. Right fielder Justin Christian then singled to left, scoring Strong. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added two more runs to end their charge in the tenth.

Yankees reliever Charlie Manning (2-1, 3.92) got the win, pitching 1.1 innings, while striking out two. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre closer Jim Brower secured his 16th save of the season, pitching a perfect tenth.

Louisville reliever Calvin Medlock (1-1, 5.87) picked up the loss, surrendering three runs on four hits in an inning of work. Tom Shearn pitched a strong game for the Bats but earned the no decision. He allowed one run on four hits in six innings of work

The Bats had five hits on the night, three of which came from designated hitter Mark Bellhorn. Bellhorn ended his night 3-for-4 with a RBI. Third basemen Aaron Herr and catcher Ryan Hanigan each had one hit for Louisville.

Game three of the four-game series will be Saturday evening. Louisville's Richie Gardner (2-1, 4.43 ERA) will face off against Scranton's Ross Ohlendorf (1-1, 2.86 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
