Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Louisville Bats in the second and third games of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (5:35 p.m.). The teams are scheduled for a doubleheader because last night's contest was postponed due to rain and wet grounds. On the hill tonight for the Herd will be LHP Aaron Laffey and LHP Jeremy Sowers. Louisville will counter with LHP Phil Dumatrait and LHP Jason Kershner.
HE'S NO JOKE: LHP Aaron Laffey has made four straight quality starts. After a complete-game loss in Indy on May 28, he has won three consecutive games. In those victories, he has allowed just three runs (two earned) in 17.0 innings pitched (1.06ERA). Laffey is coming off his best outing as he limited Richmond to just two hits in six shutout innings last Tuesday (1BB, 6K).
SWEET AND SOWERS: LHP Jeremy Sowers will pitch in Dunn Tire Park for the first time in over a year. The Bisons 2006 Most Valuable Pitcher, Sowers was 4-0 with a 1.55ERA in six starts at home last season. The southpaw was solid in his 2007 Bisons debut, allowing just three runs in seven innings in a 3-1 loss to Norfolk last Thursday.
MILLER TIME: Reliever Matt Miller has been lights out for the Herd. He has not been scored on in his last 11 appearances out of the bullpen (10.0IP). During the stretch, he has allowed just five hits and four walks while striking out 17 batters. On the year, Miller is 0-0 with a 3.21ERA in 15 appearances.
EVERY DAY HITTER: Outfielder Jonathan Van Every has made his presence felt on the team. Promoted from Akron on June 10, Van Every has hit .381 (8-21) with a triple, two home runs and five walks in eight games. He enters tonight's game on a five-game hit streak where he has averaged .438 (7-16).
ALWAYS ON: Infielder Ryan Mulhern has reached base in 14 of his last 15 games. Since June 3, he has hit .348 (16-49) with five doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and three walks.
