Norfolk Tides News Release
June 20, 2007 - Jim Johnson allowed two hits in eight innings of work and Norfolk's offense pounded out 14 hits of their own, helping the Tides roll to a 6-1 win over the Charlotte Knights Wednesday night from Harbor Park.
Johnson (3-6) was in complete control throughout the contest, walking one and striking out six. He retired the first 10 batters of the game before yielding a triple to Danny Richar in the 4th inning, and after allowing a double to Brian Anderson in the 5th frame, the 23-year-old right-hander retired the final 11 batters he faced before reliever Jim Hoey entered to pitch a scoreless 9th.
Johnson is now 2-1 with a 1.92 ERA (6-ER, 27.0-IP) in four starts in June, and his season ERA now stands at 3.45.
The Tides opened up the scoring in the 2nd inning, as Terry Tiffee drove home Mike Cervenak with an RBI double and scored one batter later on a single by Brandon Fahey.
Norfolk extended its lead to 3-0 in the third, as Tike Redman led off the frame with a double and later scored on a single by J.R. House past a drawn-in infield.
House continued his recent hot streak with a two-run double in the 7th inning, and Fahey plated the final run of the game with an RBI single in the 8th.
House finished 3-for-4 with three runs driven in, upping his average to .317 this season. He has now reached safely in 13 straight games, and is hitting .500 (12-for-24) with a home run and eight RBI during the Tides' current homestand.
Jon Knott also added three hits in the contest, extending his season-high hitting streak to nine games, as the Tides won for the fourth straight game, setting a season-high.
The Tides look for the four-game sweep of their series with the Knights on Thursday afternoon in the finale of an eight-game homestand. Left-hander Craig Anderson will be making his Tides' debut against Charlotte right-hander Gavin Floyd (4-3, 3.48), with first pitch set for 12:15 p.m.
